Curiosity
What we know today as the dance of pizzica or taranta, actually has a very fascinating and particular story. According to the legend, tarantism was a disease caused by the tarantula bite. In the past, through the right combination of musical vibrations, by violins, accordion and tambourine, they tried to heal the victim by creating a kind of musical exorcism.
The “tarantato” (the person bitten by the tarantula), by hearing the first notes, began to dance and scream for hours almost until the faint, then get to healing by symbolically squishing the tarantula.
This legend has become a real tradition in Puglia linked to other local stories especially on the condition of women working in the fields. You can discover all of this and much more during this experience with the ‘folk dances’.
